Skeletal stilletos
Apropos of nothing, I saw these and thought they might appeal to my friends who read LJ:

Gig in Colchester, June 5th
Slack Space, June 5th 2010
19-29 Queen Street (the former "Shoeworld" location)
Colchester N/A C01 2PQ

I'll be performing a 45-minute show, alongside:

BIG IN ALBANIA ("Ipswich's premier audio-visual neo-cheese rave fascist")

KELVIN & CREASE ("Up-and-coming comedy duo from Macclesfield, currently writing pilots for the BBC and E4")

MODAL ROBERTS ("Spoken-word ambience with a twisted cylindrical logic and an electric saxophone")

REBECCA WIGMORE ("However uncomfortable you might feel, believe me, she feels worse")

TWOCSINAK ("Post-ironic stolen melodies and autobiographical words from the Wrong Music roster")

and artwork by JIM TOZZI (PFFR) ("by the character designer for Wonder Showzen and Xavier Renegade Angel").

Looks like quite a night!

Ideas for performance
I'll be performing at one of the Hatch events in Nottingham on June 1st. The show will be a collaboration with Hypnotique. It's loosely (very loosely) inspired by Beckett's "Waiting For Godot". Very, very loosely.

We're looking for suggestions for what we might do during the performance. Is there anything you've always wanted to see on stage? Anything at all?

The show might become a set of dares, or it might consist of some unusual, unexpected or outrageous set pieces. Or you might have something altogether more cultured or thoughtful in mind.

Please reply to this thread with any ideas you have!

Hamburg gig postponed!
I was to have been performing at the Hafenklang in Hamburg tomorrow (17th April) but it now looks very unlikely. I hope to be able to re-schedule the performance for next month.

Hamburg gig on April 16th
April 16th, Hafenklang, Große Elbstrasse 84, Hamburg: I'll be performing a 45 minute set alongside DJ Patex + School Of Zuversicht and Frau Kraushaar. Doors open at 22:00 for a 23:00 start.

I've been working on doing one of the songs backwards, so we'll see how that goes...

Phylactery reviews
Blowing my own trumpet:

People seem to think my music is much stranger than I think it is, and to be cited as "the most bizarre" on a Warp compilation is unexpected!

According to Babelfish, this means: "Disturbing and worrying, the " Tilapia" d' Autechre is re-examined, famous (" Phylactery") and made obsessing by l' enigmatic John Callaghan who offers such a flippée vision to us qu' completely reinterpreted."

I suppose there is something very English about my music, isn't there?

Fourth Plinth on Sunday 4th October
I'll be on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square at 2pm on Sunday 4th October.

I discovered that this evening and have no time to plan anything, so I shall probably juggle while wearing a gold lamé catsuit.

Gig 23rd August in Stoke Newington
I'm performing a set at Ryan's Bar in Stoke Newington, 181 Church Street, London, N16 0UL.

It's part of a Klinker line-up, with six different acts, between 2-6pm. And I think it's even free.

93 Feet East Monday 27th July
I'm performing at 93 Feet East in E1, London, next Monday (27th July). It's a free gig and I'm on the bill with Dead Rat Orchestra and Goodiepal, so an interesting and eccentric evening is promised. 7-11pm.

Team Plastique rework
Team Plastique have uploaded my re-work of their song "Mercy BJ" onto their remix page.

I don't think it counts as a remix, really. Have a listen to the original, and then mine, and please comment on how far you think a song can be mutated before the altered version is now longer called a "remix".

Warp's 20th Anniversary Compilation
I was informed today that Warp Records are letting the public vote for which tracks are included on their 20th anniversary CD. "I'm Not Comfortable Inside My Mind" is currently 52nd, apparently!

8:54 am
I've not seen such a deep and persistent snowfall in many years. It always brings the feeling that I should be filming something. It's as if there was an idea I've had which requires snow to work. I should be rushing out of the house crying "at last! Now I can make that transcendent piece of art!"

I will be doing some filming but it might be some atmospheric landscapes rather than transcendent art. I love the snow, although I am aware it brings hardship. Yesterday evening, I was asking my landlord if we had some food for the birds. "I've got fat balls" he replied. And we left the words hanging in the air.

Music news: I finally finished "Wake Up! Wake Up!" yesterday. I began working on it on 1st May 2005. It should be the first of ten new songs released this year.

New video
My friend Paul Snowe once mentioned an idea for a video. As it's his birthday, I prepared the video and uploaded it to YouTube.

It's 1'44. I've been coughing a lot lately and the final few seconds had me laughing and coughing away like a good 'un last night. It is something to my advantage that I can make myself laugh.
